Shortly after 8 pm on Saturday at Corfu Airport, a Condor B757-300 aircraft bound for Düsseldorf caught fire during takeoff at about 1,500 feet, prompting the pilots to shut it down.
At that time, the plane was flying over Corfu port, and citizens and visitors heard a deafening noise.
The aircraft then made a turn and headed northwest of Corfu, at altitudes of 6,000 to 8,000 feet, towards Brindisi Airport in Italy.
