New EU-US Tariff Deal to Have Limited Impact on Greece, Experts Say

A recent trade agreement between the European Union and the United States that imposes a 15% tariff on some European products is expected to have a limited negative impact on the Greek economy, according to Greek officials and business leaders.

The head of the State Budget Office at the Greek Parliament, Giannis Tsoukalas, said that while the deal could have been more favorable, it removes the uncertainty of a full-scale trade war. “The share of Greek exports to the U.S. is relatively small, and we believe the direct impact will be very limited,” Mr. Tsoukalas said.

The deal was reached by former U.S. President Mr. Donald Trump and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Vasilis Korkidis, president of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, called the agreement “the lesser of two evils,” adding that the 15% tariff is “manageable.”

Greece’s Finance Minister, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, described the deal as positive for transatlantic cooperation but noted the government would prefer lower tariffs and is monitoring the situation for key Greek products like olive oil and feta cheese.
