ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group and Thriasio Freight Center S.A. have signed an agreement aimed at boosting Greece’s logistics and shipbuilding sectors, the Ministry of Development has announced.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focuses on improving supply chains, streamlining trade, and fostering sustainable logistics solutions within the shipbuilding and repair industry.
The signing, attended by Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, Thriasio CEO Vasilis Magklaras, and ONEX Chairman and CEO Panos Xenokostas, also included U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) CFO Mildred Callear and U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Maria Olson. The DFC is funding the investment.
The MoU outlines several key areas of cooperation, including:
- Supply chain management and logistics improvements
- Support for import and export activities
- Specialized services for ship supplies
- Environmentally friendly transportation options
- Automated and digital logistics services
Sharing knowledge on infrastructure development, such as automated and sustainable warehouse and transportation network design.
Theodorikakos hailed the partnership as a significant step for the Greek economy, noting it would transform a large area into a major logistics and transportation hub, create jobs, and contribute to economic growth.
Xenokostas emphasized that the collaboration with Thriasio is crucial for leveraging infrastructure and sharing knowledge to benefit the economy and workforce, particularly in the areas of energy transition and supply chain independence.
He also expressed gratitude for the support from the Greek government, the U.S. Embassy, and the DFC.
The agreement is anticipated to enhance Greece’s industrial presence in both logistics and shipbuilding within the Southeastern Mediterranean region.
