Political change for main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change “is not a slogan but a struggle for a national plan that provides convincing answers to the concerns of the citizens,” PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis said in an interview with the newspaper “Makedonia” released on Sunday.
“There has to be an end to arrogance and authoritarianism…we must stop the dangerous course toward a Hungarian-style political system,” he said, promising a government based on a reliable and progressive policy platform if PASOK wins the elections.
Androulakis stressed that PASOK was not a “party of yesterday” but a “guarantee for today and a bridge for tomorrow”, adding that ruling New Democracy did not want PASOK to be strong because it knows that the party can win and bring about political change.
“We show up the government’s policy vacuum, we submit proposals,” he said, noting that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had gotten comfortable with “political scarecrows and bogeymen” as his political opponents and therefore “preferred formations without a clear compass, without roots or institutional depth.”
Regarding PASOK’s proposals for the investigation of the Tempi rail crash, Androulakis said the party will “not back down an inch” from the effort to shed light on “every dark aspect of this national tragedy” and repeated that the party’s proposed investigation “was fully supported legally” and clearly demonstrated that the ministry’s political leadership was aware of the tragic state of the railroads but did not respond as it should have.
With respect to Turkiye, Androulakis said his party was in favour of dialogue but warned against complacency and said it was important to have no illusions, noting that the Greek government might be cultivating a rhetoric of “calm waters” but that did not mean the other side had given up its revisionism.
